What would this world be like if nothing was like it should be? The trash is alive; there are evil, carnivorous giraffes roaming in the streets; and buses have legs and climb over anything to get to the next stop. All of this and more are real in China Meivelle’s Unlondon, the bizarre opposite city of London.
Zanna and Deeba are best friends who live normal lives in London. But, one day, strange things start happening to Zanna, such as graffiti on a wall praising her, and animals giving her gifts. But the strangest thing was a moving umbrella. One night, a moving umbrella leads Zanna and Deeba into a unusual building, with a strange-looking wheel on a pipe. Somehow compelled to do so, Zeeba turns the wheel, and surprisingly turns off London. It also turns UnLondon on.
It turns out that UnLondon is in some sort of peril. They are at war with a force known as The Smog. Luckily, Zanna appears to be a hero to them, called the Shwazee, in the prophesy of a talking book. Everything is going according to the book…but then things start to go very wrong.
UnLondon is an incredible book. There are all the things I mentioned before, plus ninjas that are living trash cans, a boy that is half ghost, a tailor with pins for hair, and certainly a lot more. Go and buy China Meiville’s book Unlondon, before the Smog has a chance to come over to our world.
